Around the globe

Teacher, friend, guide, 1978-85
Around the globe of pure light,
They all come to chat
In the deepest night.

Wearing a smock of glowing white,

An old man sat

Around the globe of pure light.
His face grows bright.

He has found a new way to teach the brat

In the deepest night.

A wad of chewed gum on the desk to his right,
Blue smoke wafts from a cigarette
Around the globe of pure light.

“Close the fingers as if they are watertight,”

He shows the butterfly stroke to another novitiat €
In the deepest night.

He is my teaching angel, a familiar sight

Whether dreaming or awake. His new habitat
The globe of white light
In the deepest night.
